“Marriage Equality VR” is a recreation of the events leading up to the US Supreme Court’s Decision regarding the legality of same-sex marriage.
They learn karate to fight sexual aggressors in the shantytowns of Nairobi; participate in extreme survival camps in the Norwegian wilderness; patrol the streets of Delhi; and get concealed carry permits to protect themselves in the United States.
But what do all these women have in common? They have chosen to use force to defend their rights. The right to exercise their chosen profession. The right to use their bodies as they see fit. The right to live. “Fight Back” is a documentary series about groups of women who literally fight for their rights.
In 2014, ISIS invaded Iraq and targeted a religious minority called the Yazidis, capturing thousands of women as sex slaves. Men were executed and thrown in mass graves. In Yazidi’s history, this is known as the 74th genocide. Now, after 800 years of persecution, there are less than 1 million Yazidi left in the world. The documentary follows three Yazidi women in the aftermath of the war, from the refugee camps of Iraq to the suburbs of Germany.
In a distant dystopia, a traumatized group of four women survivors each with different stories, inner demons and agendas goes on a journey through enemy territory to reach a safe haven. Traveling through desolated landscapes, they must find supplies, support and more importantly, redemption.
